Welcome to My Child’s Playhouse! I hope you find inspiration for your child’s playhouse and build some memories with your little one(s). The days when our kids & grand-kids are little go by way too fast!
I am a 40-something wife, mom of three step-boys and grandma of three grand-kiddos who are the loves of my life.
As a child, some of my fondest memories are of the hours spent playing by myself, with my friends, and later with my little sister in the playhouse built by my father. The playhouse was the staple fixture in our small yard and served as the primary focus to all the activities of my childhood from Spring through the Fall. Although my dad is a strong believer in using only the best building materials and the highest building standards, the house itself would test the limits of safety considerations in today’s world. The structure itself was sturdy enough, however, the choice to put in a ladder leading to an upper unit with only a small railing on the outside to keep us kids in, I’m sure seemed totally rational in the 1970’s/1980’s and not at all a smart option today. What it meant back then was, especially as we got older, was the playhouse continued being the primary spot for the neighborhood kids to hang out due to the novelty of running up the ladder and jumping off the house. I’m amazed that in all the years we never had any (serious) injuries or broken bones.
Fast forward 30+ years and my childhood playhouse has been repainted in adorable cottage colors and serves as a garden shed for my dad and step-mom; I’m happy that it’s still getting just as much love and use as it did back then.
